HOW IT ALL STARTED When I was eight I was given three balls of wool by a friend of my stepfathers who came to stay from America. They were green and pink and purple and although I didnt know much about what to do with them I knew that they were important, they were magical and that they were filled with infinite possibilities...and so began my fixation for wool, which has only increased with the years. I think that my husband would probably call it an obsession, in a tender tone, in a way that someone with a fellow passion would use...but for him his personal fetish is wood. HARVEST LOOM is the perfect answer to this, the marriage of wood and wool, a hobby and business for both man and wife! One of my joys is to surround myself with many different textures and weave them together, building up the design by instinct. Wether I am working in raw fleece or recycled carrier bags the involvement is complete...the journey is equally as important as the end result. Since beginning peg looming I have found that it has opened so many new doors for learning. I have taken my looms into schools and worked with children, into the Community and worked with the elderly and partially abled. I have found that it is both a therapy and also a stimulator, an aid to helping dyslexia and a means to forge bonds between mother and child when they work together. I hope to always be exploring, learning and progressing in whatever and however many directions my peg loom takes me. Peg looming is for EVERYONE!! |
